Your MOM LOVES YOU Dearly
For this year’s Mother’s Day, my mom (the beauty in the pic above!) requested that each of my siblings gift her a hand written note. We were forbidden from buying anything and only the note was allowed. (I chose to rebel, and got a little something extra, which my mom will find out soon, ha!) There is such a sweetness to writing a note by hand. Aside from journaling to the Lord during quiet time, I haven’t hand written a note to anyone since high school. When my mom first asked for the note I began to overthink in my very “Charity way” and just hoped I’d have something extra to say that I hadn’t already conveyed in previous conversations. I’m a very ‘wear my heart on my sleeve’ type of gal and when I have a close relationship with you I express my feelings for you frequently. I felt that there were really no feelings that I hadn’t already expressed to my mom. I thank her all of the time and call her just to say “hey mommy, you’re an amazing mother”. So honey, my mom knows all of the mushy gushy feelings I have for her. What else was there to say that she hadn’t already heard?… and then I prayed… and I began to write… and something different came out…..
With her permission, I’d like to share an excerpt of the letter with you Mommas here (my mom promises not to read today’s post until after Mother’s Day so there aren’t any spoilers!):
“Dear Mommy,
I just received a text from you that reads “sleep well my darling, your Mom Loves you dearly.” The love and warmth expressed in this short and simple text encompasses the beauty in our mother- daughter relationship. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations”…I know without any wavering that the Lord appointed you as my mother… I am so blessed…”
As I began to write, there was a flood of emotion that came with the words and expression of love that was coming out onto the paper. With each stroke of the pen I felt more and more teary eyed, thinking of how much my mom means to me. My mom is my best friend, my confidant, my spiritual guide, the kindest, most sincere person in the entire planet. She’s quick to forgive, gentle, tenderhearted. Who would I be without her? Where would I be? How could I have climbed over each challenge that has been presented to me in this life? My mother was appointed specifically to me… apart of the reason she was created was to be MY mother. That’s big, that’s powerful.
Bringing this back full circle, I realize that apart of the reason I was created was to be my son’s mother… to mold him… to be his confidant… his spiritual guide, and to be an example of forgiveness, discipline and gentleness. As a mother I get it wrong some days, but for the most part I’d like to think that I seek the Lord as I go along and I’m doing the best I can. I’m grateful to be a mother, grateful to have been blessed and appointed with a child of my own… I forget that sometimes, especially on the hard days (like when he’s intentionally peeing on the floor, Lord help us with potty training, ha!), but this little boy was specially appointed to my husband and I and us to him. Stick in their mommas, we were appointed to this task, we’ve got this!
THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE:
Writing can be one of the most therapeutic things we can do. When we write it allows us to explore areas within us that may have been previously off limits… it’s a moment to sit with our thoughts and explore our vulnerabilities. This week, I’d like to challenge you to do exactly as I did and write a letter to your mother. This letter can be a discussion of whatever comes to mind. I understand that sometimes we have strained relationships, so if you don’t feel led to actually give the letter to your mom, just write it and rip it up. If this is still too difficult, write a letter to yourself exploring your own personal gratitude as the mother to your children.
APPLICABLE BIBLE VERSES:
Jeremiah 1:5, Psalms 139: 13-16
Mommas, please trust me when I say that you were made for this, the Lord has equipped you with exactly what you need. If you’re reading this, shoot me a message in the comment section and let me know what you’re most grateful for as a mother. Looking forward to our next chat as we share REAL LIFE, FROM ONE MOM TO ANOTHER. Have a blessed and happy Mother’s Day!

Beautiful passage!I feel the thing I’m thankful for being a mother, is just the pure unconditional love of your children. They just love you because of who you are.

Absolutely love this post , and that your mommy only wanted handwritten letters. I’m most thankful for the parts of my heart my son opened up that I didn’t even know were there. Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful post.
